Quick answer: Zendesk is the closest like-for-like switch, with Support Team at $19 an agent a month paid yearly and Suite Team (adding live chat and messaging) at $55. Help Scout suits small SaaS teams, with a free plan for 5 users and paid plans from $25 a user a month, billed annually. Intercom is the pick for in-app chat with an AI agent, from $29 a seat a month, billed annually, plus $0.99 per Fin outcome. Zoho Desk has the lowest entry price, from $7 a user a month, billed annually. Hiver fits email-heavy teams, from $25 a user a month on annual billing. HubSpot Service Hub, Front, Crisp and Plain complete the list. Prices are as of October 2026, checked on each vendor's own site.
Freshdesk's pricing page lists three plans: Growth at $19, Pro at $55 and Enterprise at $89 per agent a month, billed annually, with a 14-day trial of Enterprise. Freshworks describes these plans as AI-powered service over email. Chat and other channels are sold as Freshdesk Omni ($29, $79 and $119 per agent a month, billed annually), and chat on its own is Freshchat, which has a free plan for up to 10 agents.
Freddy AI Agent, the customer-facing AI, includes the first 500 sessions on every plan, once per account. After that, sessions cost $49 per 100. For email, a session is a 72-hour window from the customer's first message. Freddy AI Copilot, the agent assistant, is a $29 per agent add-on on Pro and Enterprise.
Teams look elsewhere for a few reasons. The free AI sessions are a one-time allowance, so the AI cost becomes a pack purchase on top of seats. Email, chat and omnichannel sit in different products and price lists, which complicates growing from email into in-app support. Skill-based routing and a sandbox wait for Enterprise. And product-led SaaS teams often want an in-app messenger, Slack channels with customers or tight engineering links more than a classic ticket queue.
Before you switch, check whether the gap is only chat. If it is, Freshchat's free plan (chat widget on web and mobile apps, shared inbox, up to 10 agents) may be enough.

Who it is for: teams that want the same ticket-centered model as Freshdesk with more depth in AI agents, routing and voice.
Pricing: Support Team is $19 an agent a month paid yearly ($25 monthly). Suite Team is $55 ($69 monthly), Suite Professional $115 ($149 monthly), and Suite Enterprise is quoted by sales. AI agents are included on every plan with 5 automated resolutions per agent a month (10 on Suite Professional); extra resolutions cost $1.50 committed or $2.00 pay-as-you-go. The 14-day trial opens Suite Professional with Copilot.
Strengths: from Suite Team, messaging and live chat on your website, app or social channels, AI agents for messaging and email, and a knowledge base. Zendesk completed its acquisition of Forethought, an AI agent company, in March 2026.
Limits: Support Team is built for email-based support, and live chat starts at Suite Team. Copilot is a $50 per agent add-on, paid yearly. See our Zendesk alternatives for the reverse comparison.

Strengths: messenger, inbox, tickets and help center in one product, with Fin charged at most once per conversation. Proactive Support Plus (from $99 a workspace a month) adds product tours, checklists and surveys.
Limits: two meters (seats and outcomes) to budget for, and Copilot costs $29 per agent a month, billed annually. More options sit in our Intercom alternatives list.

Pricing: Zoho Desk has a free edition for three users. Express is $7, Standard $14, Professional $23 and Enterprise $40 per user a month, billed annually, with a 15-day trial that needs no card.
Strengths: a lower entry price than Freshdesk Growth. Standard adds a live chat widget for your website or app and the ASAP self-service widget; every paid plan can build AI agents with up to 30M free tokens a month.
Limits: bot chat in the ASAP widget and skill-based assignment need Enterprise.
Who it is for: support teams that work from shared email inboxes and want help desk features on top. Hiver also sells a separate edition that runs inside Gmail.
Pricing: Hiver Omni lists Growth at $25, Pro at $55 and Elite at $85 per user a month on annual billing ($35, $65 and $95 monthly). The 7-day trial opens Elite.

Strengths: ticketing, live chat and calling from Starter; Professional adds the Customer Agent, a knowledge base, a customer portal and feedback surveys.

Strengths: Ari, an AI agent at 100 credits per resolution, Linear and Jira integrations, and a Freshdesk importer.
Limits: small seat caps per plan, and SLAs and Microsoft Teams need Horizon.
Gorgias and Gladly focus on ecommerce and retail brands. Pylon is a strong B2B option but does not publish prices; it is covered in our Zendesk alternatives post. Kustomer asks for an assessment before it shares pricing. If what you want to replace is Freddy AI rather than the help desk, see our AI customer support software guide.
Decide on three things before you compare features. First, your main channel: email-first teams will be comfortable with Zendesk, Help Scout, Zoho Desk or Hiver, while teams that want users to get help without leaving the product should test Intercom, Help Scout Beacon or Crisp in the app. Our guide to in-app support tools covers what that set-up needs.
Second, the AI pricing model. Freshdesk sells AI sessions in packs, Intercom ($0.99) and Help Scout ($0.75) charge per resolution, Front charges per outcome tier, and Zendesk includes an allowance before charging per resolution. Third, the ecosystem: HubSpot users gain the most from Service Hub, and Zoho users from Zoho Desk. If you are building support from scratch with a small team, our article on a 24/7 support system explains how self-service and automation fit together.
Zendesk is the closest like-for-like switch, Help Scout suits small SaaS teams, and Intercom fits teams that want in-app chat with an AI agent. Zoho Desk is the lower-cost option.
