9 Best Zendesk Alternatives for SaaS Support Teams

9 Best Zendesk Alternatives for SaaS Support Teams

The quick answer

Quick answer: for in-app chat with an AI agent built in, Intercom is the closest full replacement (from $29 a seat a month, billed annually, plus $0.99 per Fin outcome). Help Scout is the simplest switch for small teams, with a free plan for 5 users and paid plans from $25 a user a month, billed annually. Freshdesk keeps Zendesk's ticket model at the same $19 entry price, and Zoho Desk starts at $7 a user a month, billed annually. For B2B support in Slack, look at Plain (from $45 a user a month, billed annually) and Pylon. Front, HubSpot Service Hub and Crisp round out the list. Prices are as of October 2026, checked on each vendor's own site.

Zendesk today, and why SaaS teams look elsewhere

Zendesk's pricing page lists four customer service plans. Support Team costs $19 an agent a month paid yearly ($25 monthly) and covers email ticketing and routing. Suite Team ($55 paid yearly, $69 monthly) adds messaging and live chat, telephony and a knowledge base. Suite Professional ($115 paid yearly, $149 monthly) adds skills-based routing, and Suite Enterprise is sold through sales.

AI agents come with every plan, including 5 automated resolutions per agent a month on the Team plans and 10 on Suite Professional; beyond that, a resolution costs $1.50 committed or $2.00 pay-as-you-go. Zendesk completed its acquisition of Forethought, an AI agent company, on March 26, 2026.

Teams look elsewhere for three reasons. Zendesk's own FAQ says total cost combines seats, usage-based features and add-ons, which is hard to forecast for a small team. Live chat starts at Suite Team, not the $19 plan. And product-led SaaS teams often want support closer to the product (an in-app messenger, shared Slack channels, links to Linear and Jira) rather than a contact center suite.

1. Intercom

Who it is for: SaaS teams that support users through an in-product messenger and want AI to answer first.

Pricing: Intercom lists Essential at $29, Advanced at $85 and Expert at $132 per seat a month, billed annually. The Fin AI Agent costs $0.99 per outcome on every plan. Fin can also run on top of an existing help desk such as Zendesk, with a $49 monthly minimum that includes 50 outcomes (Fin pricing). There is a 14-day free trial with no card.

Strengths: messenger live chat, shared inbox, ticketing and a help center on every plan. Fin is charged at most once per conversation, and not at all if a customer asks for a human. The Proactive Support Plus add-on (from $99 a workspace a month) adds product tours, checklists and surveys.

Limits: you pay two meters (seats and outcomes) plus optional add-ons such as Copilot at $29 per agent a month, billed annually. For more choices in this category, see our Intercom alternatives list.

2. Help Scout

Who it is for: small and mid-size SaaS teams that want an email-first help desk with a widget that also works inside the app.

Pricing: Help Scout is free for up to 5 users, 1 inbox and 1 Docs site (100 contacts a month). Standard is $25, Plus $45 and Pro $75 per user a month, billed annually. AI Answers, its customer-facing AI assistant, costs $0.75 per resolution and comes with a 3-month free trial.

Strengths: Beacon, an embeddable help widget for your website or app with live chat, contact forms and suggested articles, plus in-app messages and surveys.

Limits: Standard caps at 25 users and Plus at 50. Pro has unlimited users with a minimum of 10, and SSO and HIPAA compliance sit on Pro.

3. Freshdesk

Who it is for: teams that like Zendesk's ticket model and want the same structure at the same or a lower per-agent price.

Pricing: Freshdesk lists Growth at $19, Pro at $55 and Enterprise at $89 per agent a month, billed annually. Freddy AI Agent includes the first 500 sessions once per account, then costs $49 per 100 sessions. Freddy AI Copilot is a $29 per agent add-on on Pro and Enterprise. A 14-day trial opens the Enterprise plan.

Strengths: ticketing, a customer portal and a knowledge base on every plan, plus day passes for occasional agents.

Limits: Freshworks describes these plans as AI-powered service over email. Chat and other channels are sold as Freshdesk Omni, from $29 an agent a month, billed annually. We compare its own alternatives in Freshdesk alternatives.

4. Front

Who it is for: teams that run support from shared inboxes and want ticketing without a traditional help desk feel.

Pricing: Front lists Starter at $25 per seat a month for up to 10 seats, Professional at $65 for up to 50 seats and Enterprise at $105, all billed annually. Its AI agent, Autopilot, uses outcome-based pricing starting at $0.05 a conversation for triage, $0.39 for a handoff and $0.89 for a full resolution.

Strengths: shared inbox, ticketing, live chat and a knowledge base. Professional adds omnichannel (email, SMS, social, WhatsApp), SSO and SCIM.

Limits: Starter covers a single channel type and up to 10 automation rules, so most support teams will need Professional.

5. HubSpot Service Hub

Who it is for: SaaS companies whose sales and marketing already run on HubSpot CRM.

Pricing: free tools for up to 2 users. HubSpot's pricing page shows Starter from $7 a seat a month (against a $20 list price), Professional from $90 a seat a month and Enterprise from $150 a seat a month. Professional and Enterprise also need one-time onboarding of $1,500 and $3,500.

Strengths: ticketing, live chat and calling from Starter. Professional adds the Customer Agent, a knowledge base, a customer portal and feedback surveys, all tied to CRM records.

Limits: AI agents and features use HubSpot Credits (Professional includes 3,000), and the onboarding fees raise the first-year cost.

6. Zoho Desk

Who it is for: cost-conscious teams, or companies already using other Zoho apps.

Pricing: Zoho Desk has a free edition with three user licenses. Express is $7, Standard $14, Professional $23 and Enterprise $40 per user a month, billed annually, and the 15-day trial needs no card.

Strengths: from Standard, a live chat widget and the ASAP widget embed self-service and chat in any web page or app. AI agents are on every paid plan, with up to 30M free tokens a month on Zoho's LLM or your own key, and Zia AI arrives on Professional.

Limits: chat with a bot inside the ASAP widget needs Enterprise, and some generative AI features on lower plans depend on connecting your own OpenAI or DeepSeek key.

7. Plain

Who it is for: B2B SaaS teams that support customers in shared Slack channels, email and in-app forms.

Pricing: Plain lists Foundation at $45 per user a month, billed annually (up to 5 member seats), Horizon at $99 per user a month, billed annually (3 to 10 seats), and Frontier at custom pricing. The 7-day free trial needs no card, and a startup program offers 50% off.

Strengths: Ari, a customer-facing AI agent at 100 credits per resolution (Foundation includes 1,000 credits a month), integrations with Linear, Jira and GitHub, and a Zendesk importer.

Limits: seat caps are small on the self-serve plans, and Microsoft Teams, SLAs and CRM integrations need Horizon.

8. Pylon

Who it is for: B2B companies whose customers expect help in Slack, Microsoft Teams or Discord.

Pricing: not published. The pricing link on Pylon's site leads to a demo booking form.

Strengths: Pylon calls itself an agentic B2B support platform, with ticketing, a knowledge base, account intelligence, CSAT surveys and AI agents across Slack, Teams, Discord, WhatsApp, chat and email.

Limits: you cannot compare cost without a sales call.

9. Crisp

Who it is for: early-stage SaaS teams that want live chat in the product and a predictable flat price.

Pricing: Crisp has a Free plan with 2 seats, then Mini at $45, Essentials at $95 and Plus at $295 a month per workspace. Every plan can be tried free for 14 days, and yearly payment can be switched on in the app.

Strengths: a chat widget plus chat SDKs, a shared inbox and an AI agent called Hugo. Paid plans include AI credits (around 90 automated conversations on Mini, 450 on Essentials).

Limits: the free plan has no AI credits, seats are fixed per plan (4 on Mini, 10 on Essentials), and only Plus lists extra agents at $10 a month.

Tools we left out or would use with care

Gorgias and Gladly are positioned for ecommerce and retail brands, so they fit SaaS support less well. Kustomer does not post prices and asks you to complete an assessment first. Hiver suits email-heavy teams and is covered in our Freshdesk alternatives post. If you only want to replace Zendesk's AI agent, see our AI customer support software guide.

How to choose a Zendesk alternative

Start with where your users ask for help. If most questions arrive inside the product, favor an in-app messenger or widget: Intercom, Help Scout Beacon, Zoho Desk ASAP or Crisp. If your customers are businesses that live in Slack, Plain and Pylon are built around that. If email is still the main channel, Help Scout, Freshdesk, Front and Zoho Desk all start below Zendesk's Suite Team price.

Then model the AI bill, since most vendors charge per AI resolution on top of seats: Intercom $0.99, Help Scout $0.75, Front $0.89, Zendesk $1.50 to $2.00 beyond its allowance. Fewer tickets is the cheapest support of all, which our guide to reducing support ticket volume covers. For self-serve help that sits inside the product next to any help desk, our help hub software roundup compares the options, including PLG OS.
