Quick answer: If you want UserTesting's think-aloud video tests without a quote-only contract, Lyssna (Growth $166 USD a month billed annually) and Maze (Starter $99 per month) are the simplest self-serve swaps. For a large participant panel, PlaybookUX (Scale $5,400 a year) and Userlytics (Premium from $699 a month, paid annually, or per-session buying) are the closest match. For moderated research, Lookback starts at $299 a year, and Great Question ($129 per seat a month) adds a research CRM for recruiting your own customers. Prices are as of October 2026, checked on each vendor's own site.
UserTesting sells three editions, starting with Advanced, and every one says "Request pricing" on its plans page. You pick a plan type: Test-based Consumption, where you pay by test usage with unlimited users, or Team-based Unlimited, where you get unlimited tests within a defined enterprise scope. The FAQ says pricing varies by number of users, types and features, and describes an annual subscription with a trial on request.
The product is broad. It covers unmoderated surveys, interaction tests and think-out-loud tests, moderated Live Conversation sessions, a participant panel across 60+ countries, click maps, path flows, sentiment analysis and transcripts. UserTesting and UserZoom merged in April 2023, and userzoom.com now points to a UserZoom page on the UserTesting site.

Who it is for: teams that want UserTesting-style unmoderated studies with a published price.
Pricing: Free is $0 (3 seats, 15 self-recruited responses). Growth is $166 USD a month billed annually or $199 billed monthly, with 5 in-depth studies a month, 5 seats and unlimited self-recruited responses. Enterprise is through sales. Panel responses cost extra on all plans.
Strengths: think-aloud recordings with audio, screen and camera, prototype, live website and mobile testing, card sorting and tree testing, and a panel of 690,000+ people.
Limits: think-aloud recordings start on Growth, and panel responses are billed on top of the subscription.
Who it is for: product and design teams that mostly test prototypes and concepts.
Pricing: Maze has a Free plan (1 study a month, 5 seats), Starter at $99 per month (1 study a month, adds audio, video and screen recording) and Enterprise with custom pricing and unlimited seats.
Strengths: prototype testing and automated reports on every plan. Enterprise lists moderated and AI-moderated interviews, live website and mobile testing, and a panel of 7M+ participants.
Limits: one study a month on self-serve plans, so heavier programs end up on Enterprise. We compare its rivals in Maze alternatives.
Who it is for: teams that want panel-based video tests but prefer to buy by the session.
Pricing: the Userlytics pricing page offers Project Based buying with no subscription (minimum 5 sessions), an annual Enterprise plan with per-session volume discounts, Premium from $699 a month paid annually for bring-your-own-participant testing, and Limitless on a custom quote.
Strengths: moderated, unmoderated and AI-moderated studies, picture-in-picture recording of screen, webcam and audio, QA review of every panel result, card sorting and tree testing. It states ISO27001 and GDPR compliance.
Limits: per-session prices are quoted by volume rather than fixed.
Who it is for: teams that recruit professionals by job role, industry or company size as well as consumers.
Pricing: PlaybookUX has a Self-serve plan (unmoderated tests and moderated interviews, pay-per-use panel credits, 50 sessions a year), Scale at $5,400 a year, Pro at $8,800 a year and custom Enterprise. Self-serve panel prices are $65 per participant for a 10 to 15 minute unmoderated test and $115 per participant for a moderated interview.
Strengths: a panel of 7M+ consumers and professionals, plus card sorting, tree testing, surveys, preference tests, Figma click testing, session replays and in-product intercepts.
Limits: several methods require an upgrade beyond Self-serve.
Who it is for: researchers who used UserTesting mainly for live, moderated sessions.
Pricing: Lookback lists Freelance at $299 a year (10 sessions), Team at $1,782 a year (100 sessions), Insights Hub at $4,122 a year (300 sessions) and custom Enterprise. The free trial gives 5 sessions and 60 days of access.
Strengths: moderated and unmoderated sessions with unlimited guests, AI-assisted analysis, and a panel powered by User Interviews. Your own participants are free to bring.
Limits: Lookback only offers annual plans, and exports require a paid plan.
Who it is for: teams that mostly research their own customers and want recruitment, scheduling and analysis in one place.
Pricing: Self-serve is $129 per seat a month, or $1,290 per seat a year, for up to 5 seats with unlimited observers. Enterprise is custom and annual only. There is a 14-day free trial and no free plan.
Strengths: interviews with round robin scheduling, surveys, unmoderated prototype testing, a participant CRM, AI analysis and a repository. Recruiting your own customers carries no per-participant fee, and external recruitment uses the Respondent panel on Self-serve.
Limits: card sorting, tree testing, focus groups and AI moderation are Enterprise features.
Who it is for: teams whose main need is information architecture work (card sorting, tree testing) alongside usability tests.
Pricing: Starter is $199 a month billed annually, with 5 studies launched per year, unlimited seats and unlimited participant responses per study. Enterprise is custom.
Strengths: every tool on every plan, including prototype, live site and first-click testing, surveys and session replays, plus recruitment through credits.

Write down what you use UserTesting for. If it is quick unmoderated tests on prototypes and pages, Lyssna and Maze cost less and publish their prices. If it is the participant network, PlaybookUX and Userlytics sell panel access as a core feature. If it is moderated interviews, Lookback and Great Question fit better.
Also check how each vendor counts usage: sessions (Lookback), studies (Maze, Optimal, Lyssna), projects (Loop11) or responses (UXtweak). Our best usability testing tools guide compares the wider field, and our explainer on usability testing methods helps decide which method you need.
Usability tests answer "can people complete this task?" before launch. For steady feedback from users inside a live product, an in-app widget such as PLG OS's feedback and surveys component is a lighter fit; our in-app survey tools guide compares the options.
UserTesting does not publish prices. Its plans page shows three editions, all marked "Request pricing", with Test-based Consumption or Team-based Unlimited plan types.
Lyssna, Maze and UXtweak have free plans. Among paid plans, Maze Starter is $99 per month and Lookback Freelance is $299 a year, as of October 2026.
UserTesting and UserZoom merged in April 2023, and the combined company uses the UserTesting name.
Maze Enterprise and PlaybookUX each list panels of 7M+ participants. Lookback's panel is powered by User Interviews, and Lyssna lists 690,000+ panelists.
Great Question is built around a participant CRM and charges no per-participant fee for recruiting your own customers. Lookback and Loop11 also let you bring your own participants free.
